Fabulous very rare hand built model
Patrice de Conto 1:8 scale Ferrari 33S 1957 Mille Miglia. #531 driven by Alfonso del Portago and Edmond 'Gunner' Nelson. The Ferrari crashed after 5 hours, killing both driver and co pilot.
Patrice de Conto made arguably the finest scale model racing cars ever made, with over 1500 hand made parts, including individually made spokes and 600 parts in the wheels alone, each model taking at least 150 hours to build. The attention to detail is incredible. The research of the car meticulous and every part of the model has been made exactly as it would have looked on the real car. With the wear to the seats, the cloth and sponge in the cockpit, tucked away tanneau cover. Highly detailed fuse box, battery, gear lever and instruments- all made by hand.
A 'kerbside' model measuring approx. two feet in length, the model sits on a bespoke base, made to look like the road surface of the period with a gloss black edge, Patrice de Conto and Minidelta gold etching at the end and comes with a perspex display cover. Produced in very small number, there are probably no more than 20 that have been made, very rarely coming up for sale and are no longer being made. This is a pre owned model. Patrice de Conto has captured the feel and beauty of this Ferrari in an incredible way, giving the model the look of the period with folded tanneau cover, padding for the knees of the driver, cloth in the door pocket. Incredibly detailed fuse box, battery and instruments.
The de Portago 335S (#0646) is a 1/8th scale curbside model similar in its conception to the von Trips 1957 Mille Miglia 315S (#0674) or the same car driven by the Collins-Trintignant 1957 Sebring but with enough differences in shape and details to require a new master and new moulds. The front area of 0646 is smaller and presents two circular air intakes for the cooling of the brakes (0674 had the mouth including those air intakes), the bulge on the bonnet, the single scoop between the bonnet and the left front wing (two on 0674), the smaller bonnet with two small bulges on either side of the main one, the windscreen, the side openings on the body, different treatment of the cockpit to lodge Ed Nelson make those two models quite different.
It takes about 150 hours to complete the building of this model, it means that production will inevitably be slow and very limited.
